Dinner Bell Farm Tour sponsored by BriarPatch on August 12

As part of the Discover Local! program that celebrates Nevada County’s local food system, BriarPatch is sponsoring a farm tour at Dinner Bell Farm in Chicago Park on Sunday, August 12, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Admission is free, and refreshments including coffee, tea, and BriarPatch baked goods will be available.

“The owners of Dinner Bell Farm in Grass Valley (Nevada County) are among an increasing number of young farmers and ranchers embracing less-than-ideal conditions, financial hardship and sometimes even loneliness to pursue their passions and take responsibility for a growing population in need of food,” as the San Francisco Chronicle has reported.

The farm is run by Molly Nakahara, Paul Glowaski, and Cooper Funk.

They met each other as apprentices in UC Santa Cruz’s Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems.

In 2010, they founded Dinner Bell Farm. Their aim is “to create a diverse farming system that focuses on soil health and regeneration.” The farmers focus on cover crops, pasturing animals, and fully integrating the ecosystem into their crops. The three strive to farm “with integrity within a wild system.”
